Elterwater Village in the Lake District

Elterwater sits and the start of one of the most beautiful valleys in the Lake District, Langdale, and can be your base for exploring the whole of the area due to the central location and excellent walking and cycling access.

At what was once the centre of the local slate quarrying industry Elterwater is characterised by the miner’s cottages which are close the still working quarry where you can see and hear the blasting and extraction of slate still going on to this day.

Today there is more to Elterwater with a great choice of accommodation in the Eltermere Inn, Britannia Inn, Langdale Hotel and Brimstone Hotel.

The Great Langdale Beck flows through the village and to the south to Skelwith Bridge it is followed by a popular trail suitable for all walkers, children and cycles. To the north this trail can be followed to the head of the valley.
